Information System

Information System is a combination of people, hardware, software, communication devices, network and data resources that processes (can be storing, retrieving, transforming information) data and information for a specific purpose. (answers.com, 2011)
It needs inputs from the user as example typing, key in instructions or commands, scanning and then the inputted data will be processed as calculating or reporting using technology devices such as computers, and produce output as printing reports or displaying results that will be sent to another user or other system via network and feedback method that controls the operation.(answers.com, 2011)

The procedures of the Information System:
Input - information, commands or instructions
Processing -calculating, programming, storing
Output - printing, reports, graphics
Controls -decision making, feedback

With Information System businesses are able to process and operate its daily work which make it easier and accurate. (answers.com, 2011)

All data and information are stored in database which provide safety and availability of data. (answers.com, 2011)

Primary function of IS is to provide relevant information for decision making. Creating and utilising information systems for effective decision making requires the system designer to understand what constitutes pertinent information and the context in which decisions are made. (ukais, n.d.)

Information System (IS) has four major categories:
1. Transaction Processing System (TPS)
2. Management Information System (MIS)

3. Decision Support System (DSS)
4. Executive Support System (ESS)

Examples of Information System are web IS, hospital IS, computer based IS, accounting IS and etc.
